Spring 2026 - simplified "Bat Walk" UI for pip mini and pip nano

A : touch - speak frequency of most-recently detected bat call
      hold - volume down
B : touch - toggle between heterodyne / time expansion 16
      hold - volume up
C: status LED - flash every second indicates heterodyne mode, solid green indicates time expansion x16
D : spectrum display (single "ultrasound" LED on nano)
​E : headphone / AUX socket - connect a powered speaker or an AUX bluetooth transmitter to lead a bat walk

The new, massively simplified UI for pip mini / pip nano. "Classic Mode" is still available by restarting the device whilst holding down both buttons. This lets you select a heterodyne frequency and freeze heterodyne scanning to (for example) do the Bat Conservation Trust's Daubenton's surveys, that insist on a heterodyner tuned to 35-36kHz.

REFLASHING YOUR DEVICE FIRMWARE
This is version 1.04 (previously version 10) of pipmini.uf2. First, turn off your pipistrelle mini and plug a USB to micro USB cable into your desktop computer. Next squeeze the button on the back of the pipistrelle mini (on nano, short the exposed metal pads labelled "reflash"), and keep it squeezed / shorted as you plug the micro USB cable into your pipistrelle. The pipistrelle temporarily becomes a flash drive called RPI-RP2 - drag pipmini.uf2 / pipnano.uf2 onto this flash drive, and the on-device firmware will be rewritten and the device will reboot. It will of course reboot as a USB microphone as it is powered via USB, so unplug the USB cable then turn on your pipistrelle  and it will boot as normal and be running the new firmware.
